Cataract

Cataract surgery removes the natural clouded lens with an artificial lens for clear vision.

When there is a clouding formed in the lens of the eye, the vision quality starts to decrease. It needs to be clean to focus light onto the retina for perfect image clarity.

It is an easy & safe surgery usually done as an outpatient procedure, as the patient would be discharged within an hour after the surgery.

This surgery is of 2 types

Phacoemulsification– The incision is small and won’t need any sutures. Through a tiny opening, an ultrasonic probe enters the eye and is used to break up your cataract and suction it out. A clear artificial lens is folded and placed inside the same place where your lens was present previously.

Extracapsular cataract surgery– A slightly larger opening is made to remove your cataract in 1 piece and a lens is inserted in your eye. This is a preferred method only when your cataract is so advanced that it cannot be broken safely with the ultrasonic probe. The artificial lens is inserted and the surgery is completed.
This lens is of many types and can cater to your needs depending on the type of IOL used.

Monofocal Lens– Can provide excellent distant vision. However, you will still need glasses to have a clear vision of objects that are near, also for works like reading, using a PC & so on.

Multifocal Lens– They are like bifocal or progressive glasses. They provide clear vision at intermediate, distant, and near vision and also give you a certain amount of spectacle independence. These must be catered to the patient’s eye, not on one’s size

Toric Lens – When you have a cylindrical power in your eye toric lens helps in correcting this power allowing you to see comfortably at a distance.
